My brand new 2012 vehicle less than six months old was totaled by some idiot the other day.. and the insurance people offered a settlement in where I would still owe a little to the loan people. My question is... would it be possible to negotiate with the lien company on accepting the insurance settlement as paid in full... since it would be paid off in less than the four year time-frame originally agreed upon? My father was with me when I spoke with the insurance people and he told them HELL NO on the offer... and they told us to come in monday and see if we can work together on paying the car off. My father seems to think that the insurance company will pay off the loan in it's entirety because he ended up suing and winning for much more than originally settled upon in all his previous accidents in which they wouldn't give him what he wanted. The thing is I don't trust this because it's in my name and I don't know all the ropes

Don't give me because it costs too much and they cant afford it. I think it's the price of having a car. You wouldn't get a car and say well tires are expensive, I can't afford them you just need them. The point of insurance is to be able to afford to fix any damages you may cause to another driver's car or person. If I wrecked someone's car I would certainly want the other person to be able to get their car fixed or replaced. We've been with Allstate for home and auto insurance for over 30 years, and they have recently starting screwing with us about renewing out Homeowner's insurance. We're pretty sure they are nitpicking about things because they are not writing new policies for Californians, but are keeping existing customers for now. Anyway, I went to the Auto Club this morning and got quotes from them for Home and Auto Insurance and their prices are much better than Allstate's.
